Education
Education is compulsory in Japan at elementary and lower secondary levels. Most students in Japan and Tokyo attend public schools during lower secondary and attend private schools during their upper secondary education. Public high schools in Tokyo are run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government board of education and they are called "Metropolitan High Schools". Tokyo also has many private schools from kindergarten through high school. Tokyo is also home to many public and private universities including the University of Tokyo. University of Japan is ranked 17th world wide and is the best in Japan.
